Even though Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is a rain or shine event, we were certainly pleased to see the sun peak through the clouds mid-morning and to have perfect temperatures for a Walk. The lower level of Centennial Hall in London, Ontario was buzzing with excitement and anticipation as approximately one hundred men with their cheerleaders (family, friends, co-workers and dogs) assembled to begin the 2014 Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event raising awareness of a very serious issue of violence against women and raising money for Women's Community House. Pledges and donations are still expected and on-line pledges/donations to the Walk are still being received (go to www.walkamilelondon.ca and click on the Donate Now button) but an approximate of monies raised is $28,500. Congratulations to Team Bluestone who won the Shoe-Be-Do trophy for the team with the most pledges and to Al Murphy who was awarded the Shoe-per-man award for the individual walker raising the most pledges. Thanks to all the Walkers and their 'fans', to those who made pledges, to our super-amazing volunteers, to 102.3 Jack FM, to Tender Tootsies and to Tim Horton's.
